About Us
The
Congregation of the Sisters of Mary of Kakamega started in 1932 with three girls in Kakamega diocese Kenya but it has now grown and
extended to Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan, and USA with more than 350 Religious Sisters. The sisters opened the first house in Eastern Uganda in 1977 with
the headquarters at Nyondo in Mbale District for effective Administrative
Management. These Sisters lead a Community Life in imitation of the Blessed
Trinity and the Early Christian Community by sharing everything in common as a prophetic
sign of God’s Kingdom. The sisters take religious vows of Obedience, Chastity and Poverty and witness to the Gospel through their apostolic activities.
· The Sisters of Mary in Uganda Region are engaged in evangelization and serve in various apostolates, to bring about integral development to God's people. We reach out to others though: Catechisis, Teaching at various Levels, Pastoral /Social work, Nursing, Secretarial work, Catering, Administration, guidance and counseling, Care for the mentally and physically challenged/Orphans
and Agriculture for self sustenance.
Our Charism - To share in the Redemptive Mission of Jesus Christ the
Great Teacher (cf Lk 4:31-32) and Healer cf. Mk 10:46-52).
Our Spirit - The Spirit of the Sisters of Mary is Persevering Love and Service in emulation of the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Mother.
